The Creative Principal;
Above; Heaven the Creative
Below; Heaven the Creative
Qian represents what
is great, penetrating, advantageous, correct, and firm.
It is the originator, the creative.
Qian works sublime success.
Perseverance brings favourable results to he who is
firm and unyielding. Take charge and be resolute.
Vast is the great
originator. All things owe their beginning to it and
it contains all the meanings embodied in its name; the
clouds move and the rain falls everywhere; all things
appear in their developed form.
The movement of the heavens reveals transcendent power.
The Superior Man therefore nerves himself for untiring
activity.
Line 1
The dragon lies concealed
in the deep. Action at such a time would be unwise.
The dragon is the
symbol of the dynamic nature of the storm. The Superior
Man himself is represented as the Dragon. When the Dragon
flies the time of action is near. The wise man bides
his time for the propitious moment. Remain calm and
patience will be rewarded.
Line 2
The dragon appears
in the field. It is favourable to see the great man.
The beneficial forces
of Nature appear.
It is time for the Superior Man to embark upon his chosen
field of activity. Though he begins in a subordinate
position, he rises quickly due to his sense of purpose
and sense of responsibility.
Line 3
The Superior Man
is active all day long. At nightfall his mind is still
full of care. Danger of becoming overwhelmed, but no
reproach.
The Great Man increases
his importance. His fame spreads. He must be aware of
ambition destroying his integrity. He who is aware of
what lies ahead avoids the pitfalls.
Line 4
The flight across
the abyss is not sure. He who is resolute suffers no
reproach.
The dragon seems
to be leaping up, but is still in the deep. The time
of decision has come. He can go upward and forward.
He can make an important place for himself in the world,
or he can retreat again into solitude. As long as he
is true to his nature, no blame either way. Be sure
you are right then go ahead. Otherwise, remain quiet
and be patient.
Line 5
The dragon flies
across the heavens. It is favourable to see the great
man.
All Nature is in
accord. Clouds follow the dragon. Wind follows the Tiger.
The great man has made his choice. Everyone follows
him with their eyes as he reaches the height of his
achievement.
Line 6
The Dragon flies
too high. There will be cause for repentance.
A warning not to
aspire too high and succumb to arrogance which will
isolate him from mankind. Guard against going too far.
